A South Carolina Republican state lawmaker wants to make changes to the states gambling laws to allow people to have poker games in their homes.

The current laws not only make a weekly poker game at your home between friends illegal as well as most card games and dice games; technically according to the state laws even monopoly is illegal.

The problem according to the lawmaker is that the laws have not been changed in 200 years, and are in desperate need of some modernization.

The bill is in its early stages, and it is expected to have much opposition from the other republicans.

The young lawmaker decided to draft the bill after a raid of a home in Mount Pleasant South Carolina that resulted in the arrest of the 28 year old homeowner who pleaded guilty to operating a gambling establishment. He was fined almost $800, but avoided any jail time.

Several other people who were arrested in the raid have asked for a trial with jury to fight what they feel is an unjust law.

“The key to the new bill is to make sure everyone knows I am not trying to open the door to Casino gambling,” said the Bills Sponsor Who added ”My bill will not allow someone to open a for profit poker room run from their home.”
